The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has condemned the disruption of a constituency meeting at Tafo-Pankrono over the weekend by some persons believed to be members of the vigilante group, Delta Force. The party has therefore called on the police to “deal decisively” with the alleged Delta Force attackers. In a statement issued days after the incident, the party’s National Organizer, Sammy Awuku, said the use of violence in internal party activities is unlike the NPP, and will not be countenanced especially under the leadership of the President Akufo-Addo who “has been a strong advocate of the rule of law.” This is not the first time the party has publicly condemned an action by members of Delta Force, which is affiliated to the party. Despite its various public statements to condemn such violent acts, similar incidents of violence persist in various parts of the country. While noting that it is putting in place measures to avert any such attack in the future, it urged persons or groups affiliated to the party who may be aggrieved to avoid using violence seek justice. The action of the young men is highly unacceptable, unjustifiable and unfortunate regardless of their reasons. The use of force and violence particularly in internal party matters, is alien to the tenets of the New Patriotic Party and should have no place among us, especially under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who has been a strong advocate of the rule of law. The party is equally putting in measures to ensure that we nib these acts of violence in our internal party activities, in the bud. We warn any group of persons who might be harbouring any of such intentions to advise themselves, since the party will not tolerate such behavior and will cooperate with the Police as we have always done.
