These are the exact words of former President Jerry John Rawlings when he was addressing the student body of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in its yearly ‘TekTalk’ program which he was the guest speaker on Saturday, October 13, 2018, MyNewsGh.com has filed.
The former president exuded that, some vested interest in the Ghanaian politics who feel threatened by his uncompromising nature and solid integrity have started the ‘nonsense’ of rehashing and recooking history to make innocent people look murderous just so they can silent the likes of him but it won’t work as it didn’t work in time past.
‘One former president who came after me went bragging that he has done in six months what I couldn’t do in nineteen years and you know what I said after hearing this wish-wash…I said, it’s true because he did what I wouldn’t do even in a century.
These are evil people, your refusal to compromise naturally threatens them as it gets them out of office and they will do anything to wipe you out but look at me, if they couldn’t break me then, you think it is now that they can?’. He asked the students as MyNews covered.
The former president who ruled Ghana for almost two decades further threw a challenge to the people behind the image-tarnishing to come for a ‘one on one’ polygraph test and see who stands out.
He told the University community not to be afraid of the politics being practiced in the country and always fight for their place.
He encouraged them to not waver in their values and principles as Ghana rests on their shoulders.
‘This is your country, do not let them make you cowards, do not let them bully you, we rode on our youthful exuberance and our quest for justice to bring Ghana on its right path. Though they have managed to make it turbulent, this is your time, choose to make an impact, choose to make it right.’ He urged.
‘TekTalk’ is a yearly KNUST motivational campus program organized by the local chapter of the National Union of Ghana Students to inspire the youth and the University community.
Dr. Benjamin Kumbuor (former Attorney General and Minister of Justice) and Nana Aba Anamoah (Broadcast Journalist with the EIB Group) were among the guests who graced the occasion.
