Appeal for collaborative efforts

Mr. Odotei charged all relevant stakeholders to put in efforts to combat cyber threats and attacks through awareness creation and put in preventive measures to combat and reduce the menace of child online abuse.

“As government is doing its part, we need to contribute our bit as parents, teachers, industry [players, media and opinion leaders to disinfect the internet of cyber-crime just as we would with any infectious outbreak. We must utilize the knowledge and research that we have gained regarding cyber-security threats and avoid inappropriate behaviour and fraudulent uses of the internet to protect our children and young people from cyber criminals. We must acknowledge the threats , discover the universe of possible responses to each threat and then empower our selves with safety measures to eradicate the problem, the minister advised.

National Cybersecurity Awareness Programme

In 2018, the Ministry of Communications through the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) launched Ghana’s National Cybersecurity Awareness Programme as part of national efforts to raise awareness on cybercrimes and the need to improve Ghana’s Security readiness among public, children, businesses and government.

The National Cybersecurity Awareness Programme under the theme – A Safer Digital Ghana is designed to be implemented over a five-year period (2019-2024)

As children continue to use the internet for learning, communication and entertainment, safeguarding children and young people from cyberbullying, online grooming and circulation of inappropriate images has become critical

Efforts are however being made to highlight positive uses of technology and to explore the roles in helping to create a better and safer online community.
