Member of Parliament for Assin Central Hon. Kennedy Agyapong has attacked members of his party the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who brand the party as the ”Akanfour” party.
He noted that the biggest opposition party the NDC has never been labeled as a non-Akan party because they usually pick non- Ashanti.
” People say NPP is an Akan party, it’s rubbish. Has NDC ever picked an Ashanti as a presidential candidate? When did they pick an Ashanti as a Vice presidential candidate? Why should we run from the truth”?
His comment comes after the majority leader Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu has been chastised for limiting the argument on who to lead the party on tribal lines.
” We should be bold to criticized anyone who tags the NPP as an Akan party. Has NDC ever picked an Ashanti. Tell me when NDC picked an Ashanti as a presidential candidate. Why do we always tag ourselves as an Akan Party. It won’t help us”.
” The NDC has the courage power to pick anyone, but they also choose Northerners and Voltarians. Why don;t you say they are party of Voltarians and Northerners”
I will work with anyone the party chooses but limiting the argument on tribal lines will not help the party. Kennedy Agyapong however declared his support for Alan Kyeremanten and Boakye Agyarko expressing his readiness to work with them.
