The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has finally reacted to #FixTheCountry. This hashtag has been trending on social media for over a week now and has also received over 600,000 hashtags.

All this started when a Twitter handler known as Kaly Jay started this hashtag. Ghanaians then bought into his ideas as they also listed some issues in the country they want President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his associates to fix. Some of the listed problems include increased taxes and fuel prices, bad roads, high standard of living, abandoned housing projects among several other issues.

Initial responses from some New Patriotic Party (NPP) officials including the Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagiri Constituency, Hon. Frank Annoh-Dompreh worsen the situation. He asked those calling for the country to be fixed to first fix themselves where ‘insults’ was even part of his comment.

But Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has called for calmness as he asked Ghanaians to be patient because they just four months into their four-year mandate. As for Dr. Bawumia, he admitted that the job of the government is to fix problems. In other words, Ghanaians should not adhere to other NPP Members telling them to fix themselves first. This really shows maturity.

The Vice President added that the global pandemic has slowed down the economy of the country and caused increases in the prices of commodities such as oil, cement, iron rods, and the overall cost of shipping.

This is what Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia wrote on his official Facebook page:

“We are four months into our four-year mandate. The job of the government is to fix problems. This is what we have been doing since 2017. The COVID-19 pandemic has slowed down the global economy and caused increases in prices of commodities such as oil, cement, and iron rods, and the overall cost of shipping.

Nevertheless, it is very important to place the performance of our government over the last four years after inheriting an economy with “no meat on the bone” on record. Ours is a government that listens and cares. The facts and data speak for themselves. Trust President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. #HeIsFixingIt”.

He also listed about 70 problems they inherited from Ex-President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration and how they have been able to improve and solve those problems. Check out the list below:
