Controversial social media personality, Monalisa Abigail Semeha, known in showbiz circles as Mona Gucci, has stated that the level of hatred in the entertainment industry, especially among television and radio presenters, is getting out of hand.

The former host of Link Up on Katanka TV said the hatred and backbiting was one of the many reasons the industry was not moving forward.

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz recently, Mona Gucci said, “The level of hatred in the industry is something else, it is just too much. There are so many talented people out there who need one or two opportunities to show the world what they are made of but they are not getting it because people who are there already have refused to train or mentor them so that we all grow.

“The same people want to remain at the top forever and once you push your way through and you also get there, then they come at you in all ways, doing their best and everything to bring you down.

“For me, I want to say anyone who has done that or is planning to has a lot of work to do because it will not get to me. What I am saying is not based on hearsay, it is what I have witnessed and experienced since I became active in the television hosting space,” she said.

Mona Gucci added, “We need unity, we need to be one. Let us not go far looking for examples, just take a look at Nigeria and the new crop of comedians they have, you will see celebrities such as Toke Makinwa, Don Jazzy, Davido, Mercy Johnson etc. playing roles in their skits but in our country Ghana, the story is totally different, it is just sad.

Mona is now the newest presenter to join the Media General family as the host of Biribi Gyegye Wo show on Onua TV. She said she was thankful for the opportunity.

“When I left Katanka TV, it was with the intention of going back to school because like I say always, I wasn’t in Ghana to stay, it was for holidays but I know the CEO of Katanka so I was like ‘why not do something for the mean time.’

“I didn’t leave on a bad note, but after this decision, I got a lot of offers and going through, I picked TV3 because everyone wants to be part of a brand that will build their career. I will also need money to pay my school fees I, therefore, chose the one that will make that possible. It’s really good feeling to be a part of the team,” she said.

Mona, who during the interview was reserved and calm contrary to the person we see on social media, said that was the real her.

“I’m the reserved type; I let you see what I want you to see. When I have to work, I need to put on that working dress and give it my best. I love being indoors, watching television and being on my phone. Honestly, I’m a boring person to have as a friend. Do not trust me when it comes to inviting me to an event, I may disappoint you,” she said.

In an answer to if she knew she was going to be a social media and television sensation today, she said, “Yes, I knew I will be one day. I have always loved the media. Television presenting is not something I wanted to do, rather I love acting and I am very good at it and I have featured in a few movies like Banker to Banker.”

“I was trained by Papa Kwesi Ackom, a TV producer and director, but along the line, my parents made me stop because it was affecting my education. My second shot in the media space was a presenting job and that has been it since,” she added.
