Ghana Football Association Spokesperson Henry Asante Twum has revealed that his outfit is struggling to arrange high profile friendly games for the Black Queens to prepare them for their AWCON qualifier game against Nigeria because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ghana face a difficult task in their quest to qualify for the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nation as the Black Queens have been drawn against serial winners Nigeria. The Queens will face the Super Falcons, who are the defending champions and the most successful team with 9 titles in 11 editions in the first round from 15th to 17th of June.

“Covid has made things a bit difficult for the FA, because of Covid these days you don’t even have ample time to prepare teams and so immediately after the draw the national team department led by Alex Asante met with the technical team led by Mercy Tagoe Quarcoe to outline some of the plans they have for the team from now to the time they play against Nigeria” He told Starr sports

Many Ghanaians have called on the GFA to arrange international friendly games for the team to prepare them adequately for the qualifiers against their West African rivals but Henry Asante Twum insists the FA have written to Benin, Ivory Coast and Togo but are yet to get a response.

“They have proposed to get one or two high profile friendly games before they play Nigeria. It’s very close and we have contacted some of our neighbors, Is Benin interested as we speak? They haven’t said yes to our request. Ivory Coast and Togo have also not responded favorably to our request but we will continue to push and get at least one high profile friendly game for the Black Queens. We are interested in giving them the best of preparations before we face the Super Falcons” He added.
