The cover of about 10 top Ghanaian journalists who are being groomed to start an image smear campaign against Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has been blown.
According to the leaked conversation available to MyNewsGh.com, the journalists including some producers of popular political programmes are expected to target Akan-dominated areas and whip up the tribal and religious card in order to court disaffection for Dr Bawumia.
The meeting was held last weekend at Bukas Restaurant at Osu in Accra where their anchorman who is fronting for another candidate in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential hopeful, reportedly schooled the journalists and their producers on their modus operandi.
“They want us to play the tribal and religious card and their main focus is to target Akan people”, one of the journalists who sat through the meeting told MyNewsGh.com on condition of strict anonymity.

Ahead of the polls, therefore, several persons including Minister of Agriculture Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Trade and Industry Minister John Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanteng and former Energy Minister Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko have expressed interest in succeeding the President to lead the NPP to the polls.
Current Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia though credited for his contributions to the party’s 2016 and 2020 victories, is yet to publicly confirm or deny his interest in taking over from his boss.
In October last year when asked about the issue on Kumas-based Pure Fm, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia indicated that his only focus is to help President Akufo-Addo to succeed as the future remains in God’s hands.
“Adinkrah, my only job is to be Vice-President. As for the future, it is in God’s hands. It’s just my focus to help our President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to succeed so we all benefit.” Dr. Bawumia responded when he was asked if he had planned on leading the country in the near future with all the experience he has gathered in his political life should the need arise.

Meanwhile, Kevin Ekow Taylor of Loud Silence Media some five months ago hinted of an agenda by big Media Houses in Ghana to tarnish the image of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
According to him, morning show hosts at some big media organizations in Ghana he promised to name at a later date, have taken huge sums of money from internal saboteurs with the New Patriotic Party(NPP) to blame some failures of the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s government at the doorstep of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
