Parliament has by unanimous decision passed the 2022 budget statement and economic policy of the government.

This was after the presiding speaker, Joseph Osei Owusu, declared Friday’s rejection of the budget as null and void and unconstitutional.

The passing of the budget was boycotted by the minority National Democratic Congress (NDC) MPs the same way the Majority New Patriotic Party MPs boycotted last Friday’s voting of the budget.

There were 137 MPs in parliament, including the speaker, making the total number of MPs present to be 138.

This number of MPs, the speaker of parliament said, meets the constitutional requirement for a decision to be taken by parliament.

Before the approval of the budget, the speaker gave the Finance Minister an opportunity to make his concluding remarks which he said was denied him by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin.

In his remarks, he said he has taken the concerns of the minority on board but maintained his position regarding the imposition of the 1.7% E-levy.
