Ghanaian journalist and managing director of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Junior has sent a bold message to former President John Mahama and other concerned NDC members who are calling on the ruling government to go to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for assistance because our economy is in crisis.

Former President John Mahama had released an article two days ago titled “Time is ticking for the crisis-ridden Ghanaian economy” in which he suggested to the current President of the country to go back to IMF for effective measures to rescue this country’s economy. According to him, our economy is in a very bad state and crisis. Before his comments, other concerned citizens and NDC members had also raised the same issue.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kwesi Pratt when speaking today on Metro TV‘s Good Morning Ghana mentioned that indeed he agrees with the former President that the economy is in crisis and that nobody can disagree otherwise.

However, he added that the solution to our economic problems can not be for us to go back to IMF because we’ve gone to IMF 17 times, and our economy has never been better.

” Nobody can disagree with Mahama that the Economy is in crisis. Our economy currently is in serious crisis and we all agree. We are suffering from unsustainable public debts, inflation is rising, our country is also depreciating among other factors so it’s true we are in crisis.”

” However, I get sick when I hear Mahama and some NDC persons telling the government to go back to IMF. I ask myself, where have they been all these years? They should show us one country in the world which had economic problems and after going to the IMF, their problems were fixed. There is none. Besides, we’ve been to the IMF 17 times and despite that, this is our current state of the economy. Very bad. So going to IMF is not an option.” Mr. Kwesi Pratt said on Metro TV this morning.
