Veteran Journalist, Abdul-Malik Kwaku Baako has slammed the government for communicating poorly on issues surrounding Aisha Huang’s purported deportation.

He says although communication on circumstances under which Aisha Huang left the country was ‘clumsy’, the Information Minister’s claim that she was repatriated and not deported was apt.

“Admittedly, incoherent and clumsy communication! Perhaps even inept! But the fact was/is that REPATRIATION was what happened”! He said.

Mr Baako wrote the above comments on his Facebook wall in response to raging debates about whether Aisha Huang was deported or repatriated.

Aisha Huang, the Chinese national involved in illegal mining in Ghana, was rearrested and remanded in custody last week after she sneaked back into the country following her purported deportation back in 2018.

The President, while responding to questions on matters arising from her deportation on Stone City Radio in Ho, expressed uncertainty about whether she was actually deported or she fled the country all by herself.

The president’s comments led to a major public backlash with some wondering whether the Commander in Chief of The Ghana Armed Forces is on top of issues in the country.

In an attempt to clarify the president’s statements, the Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, said his boss was misquoted.

He said the question that was asked about Aisha Huang’s issue was premised on deportation and not repatriation.

“First of all, when the question was asked, which was the question premised on deportation and you (you listen to) the entirety of the president’s answer, you get clarity on first, the figure of speech that he used that he’s not too sure whether it was deportation or whether she fled on her own.

Aisha Huang was denied bail last Wednesday, September 14, after her lawyer failed to secure a release at the Accra Circuit Court 9.
