Manchester United were close to signing PSV attacker, Cody Gakpo in the summer transfer window but the move was ruled out after 100 million Euros was splashed on the signing of Brazilian winger Antony from Ajax.

On paper, Cody Gakpo had averaged more attacking numbers than Antony but the club and Erik Ten Hag preferred the Brazilian winger because of familiarity to the coach’s tactics.

Since the failure of the transfer, Cody Gakpo has recorded 13 goals and 14 assists in all competitions this season. This makes him one of the players with the highest output in all leagues across Europe. According to sources close to the player, there are big clubs that are ready to snap the player’s signature in January and one of them is Manchester United.

The Red Devils have not given up on signing the player who could cost up to 50 million euros. Aside Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspurs and Leeds United have all made approaches to sign the player.
