In the wake of the 2022 World Cup, there is set to be a major frenzy of activity in the European transfer market. We identify three African stars from the global tournament who could make headline-grabbing moves next month.

Hakim Ziyech, Morocco

Age: 29

Current club: Chelsea (England)

The contract runs until June 2025

The creative inspiration behind a Morocco team that has broken new ground for Africa at the 2022 World Cup, Ziyech has had major frustrations at the club level this season, having struggled to win playing time with Chelsea. He looked likely to leave the Blues before the World Cup, and the list of potential suitors will have grown in the wake of his excellence for the Atlas Lions. One of his potential destinations is reportedly Manchester United, with such a move re-uniting him with manager Erik ten Hag (the two worked together to great effect at Ajax).

Mohammed Kudus, Ghana

Age: 22

Current club: Ajax (Netherlands)

The contract runs until June 2025

Though Ghana had a disappointing 2022 World Cup, exiting in the first round after managing to win just one of their three Group H matches, attacker Mohammed Kudus enhanced his reputation with some exciting performances. So much so that the Ajax man has been linked with several major names, – but not limited to –Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona, and AC Milan. Wherever he ends up, Kudus is set to be the Black Stars’ standard-bearing superstar.

Ismaila Sarr, Senegal

Age: 24

Current club: Watford (England)

Currently, on the books of Watford in the EFL Championship, Sarr proved in the course of the 2022 World Cup that he is an outstanding attacking talent – filling in for the absent superstar Sadio Mane – and it is little surprise that he is being strongly linked with a move to the Premier League in January. Everton, Crystal Palace, and Aston Villa are being linked with a move for the 24-year-old, who is even more appealing given that he has just 18 months left on his contract with the Hornets.
