Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu has been petitioned to investigate and prosecute a case of ‘corruption’ involving then Vice President John Mahama which occasioned late Prof Atta Mills to have Mr Mahama investigated as a sitting Vice President; MyNewsGH.com can say.

“We do consider the allegation against him as criminal and for that matter, we humbly beseech your office to have this matter investigated to get those monies retrieved back to the public purse. It is our conviction that, the issue be considered in the interest of the Republic of Ghana” The petition asked of the Special Prosecutor to take action.

This ‘looting’ case first came to light in 2016 through one of the epistles of Mr Martin Amidu, then an ordinary Citizen Vigilante who wrote an article urging Ghanaians not to vote for a “corrupt” Mr Mahama and NDC again, alleging among others, that former the President John Mahama, then serving as Vice President under Prof Atta Mills diverted an amount of $13m or 61million cedis to his private pocket when he served as Vice-President.

The money which was supposed to be the E.O Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) budget was allegedly diverted by then Vice President Mahama.

Mr Amidu, now as Special Prosecutor with some “power” is being asked to put the matter to a final rest through an investigation, and where the laws apply, prosecute or name and shame with the facts laid bare.

The four Ghanaians, who submitted the petition to Mr Amidu’s office include Emmanuel Owusu, Eric Dumenu Akatsi, Peprah Kyei Baffour and Dawda Eric and they say, the money Mr Mahama then as Vice President creamed off the deal directly affected them as indigenes of the Western Region as it was meant for a project that would have served them.

They have therefore petitioned Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu to investigate former President John Dramani Mahama for allegedly diverting the $13 million meant for the development of the Western Region from the E.O. Group.

The petition, MyNewsGH.com learnt, is dated 18th June 2018,  and says among other things:

“We submit before your office, this petition to invoke section 3(1) (b) of the Office of the Special Prosecutor Act, 2017(Act 959) to have former President John Dramani investigated for alleged diversion of $13m meant for the development of Western Region from the E.O. group of company as part of their corporate social responsibilities.”

They added that: “The petitioners are citizens of the Republic of Ghana with the constitutional right to expose and combat crime in the interest of the good people of Ghana. The basis upon which this petition is brought to your office is as a result of an article published on Ghanaweb.com on the 2nd December 2016 by the longest-serving Deputy Attorney General of the Republic of Ghana in the person of Hon. Martin Alamisi Amidu.”

The same Mr Martin Amidu had said Mr Mahama was investigated by a Cabinet committee over the purchase of Embraer jets and Hangars from Brazil which the late President Mills found fishy too. He also occasioned an investigation into the cost as they were bloated.
