The Sierra Leone Football federation have petitioned FIFA to enable them honour their upcoming afcon 2019 qualifier against Ghana in the wake of the ban imposed on them

This is to enable them navigate the emergency situation without having to forfeit points against Ghana.

The SLFA incurred the wrath of FIFA on October 5, following the decision by government to interfere in the running of the country’s football despite several promptings by FIFA to desist from the act.

According the Sierra Leonean government Isha Johansen and Chris Kamara are guilty of corruption and abuse of office but the two have denied any wrong doing.

However, after a meeting between government and officials of the SLFA it was agreed that the Johansen led administration be allowed to write to FIFA to seek a short term solution with the match against Ghana looming.

Sports Minister for Sierra Leone, Ibrahim Nyelenkeh, believes FIFA will grant their request to enable them honour the two legged encounter.

“By the reactions and eagerness and exuberant energy that I saw from all football stakeholders including Isha and her secretary I think they are ready to ask FIFA to reverse the suspension while deliberations are ongoing.

“I am confident and sure that we are going to honour this match against Ghana home and away” he stated.

They are also seeking to have the match day moved from October 11, to October 12 and thus have informed Ghana’s normalization team.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has condemned the disruption of a constituency meeting at Tafo-Pankrono over the weekend by some persons believed to be members of the vigilante group, Delta Force. The party has therefore called on the police to “deal decisively” with the alleged Delta Force attackers. In a statement issued days after the incident, the party’s National Organizer, Sammy Awuku, said the use of violence in internal party activities is unlike the NPP, and will not be countenanced especially under the leadership of the President Akufo-Addo who “has been a strong advocate of the rule of law.” This is not the first time the party has publicly condemned an action by members of Delta Force, which is affiliated to the party. Despite its various public statements to condemn such violent acts, similar incidents of violence persist in various parts of the country. While noting that it is putting in place measures to avert any such attack in the future, it urged persons or groups affiliated to the party who may be aggrieved to avoid using violence seek justice. Dr. Anthony Akoto Osei Read the statement below: NPP CONDEMNS THE DISRUPTION OF TAFO- PANKRONO CONSTITUENCY MEETING The New Patriotic Party (NPP) strongly condemns the violent disruption of a meeting between the Member of Parliament for Tafo-Pankrono, Dr. Anthony Akoto Osei and his constituents on Sunday, October 7, 2018. The action of the young men is highly unacceptable, unjustifiable and unfortunate regardless of their reasons. The use of force and violence particularly in internal party matters, is alien to the tenets of the New Patriotic Party and should have no place among us, especially under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who has been a strong advocate of the rule of law. We call on the security agencies to deal decisively with this case without fear or favour. The party is equally putting in measures to ensure that we nib these acts of violence in our internal party activities, in the bud. We warn any group of persons who might be harbouring any of such intentions to advise themselves, since the party will not tolerate such behavior and will cooperate with the Police as we have always done. We would again entreat our party members and supporters to at all times resort to laid down internal structures and procedures in seeking redress for their grievances and concerns. Signed Sammy Awuku (National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party) Background Some aggrieved Delta Force members over the weekend disrupted a meeting of constituency executives chaired by the Member of Parliament for that constituency, Dr. Anthony Akoto Osei. Reports say the group wanted to physically assault the MP who doubles as Monitoring and Evaluation Minister over failed election promises before the 2016 general elections. The MP was however assisted to escape unhurt. Two arrested Police in the Ashanti Region on Tuesday arrested two suspects in connection with the incident. The suspects are 49-year-old Paul Attah Onyinah, and 51-year-old Richard Yaw, who are both members of the pro-NPP vigilante group, Delta Force in the Tafo-Pankrono constituency. According to the police, three other suspects are currently on the run. The suspects have been transferred to the Ashanti Regional Police headquarters for further investigations. NCCE demands decisive action The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has already condemned the incident and called on the government to take urgent steps to immediately disband all political party vigilante groups which it says are a threat to the country’s peace and security. – By: Jonas Nyabor/citinewsroom.com/Ghana
