Government is pleased with the work of Dampare and his team – Oppong Nkrumah

The Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has stated that government is pleased with the work of the acting Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, so far.

According to him, the acting IGP, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has initiated pragmatic security arrangements to deal with the surge in crime.

Dr. Dampare has been in office for barely a month after he took over from IGP Oppong Bonuh as head of the police service.

However, speaking to Citi News, Oppong Nkrumah said the government is pleased that the new IGP and his team are tackling issues of security head-on.

He also reiterated the government’s commitment to resource the service to fight crime.

“The government is pleased that the IGP and the revived police team are taking the bull by the horns and literally on a daily basis is on the offensive and also updating the country. One of the things that used to be rare is the conference of Regional Commanders, the new IGP quickly called one focusing on the issues of robbery, homicides and appears to be tackling them and keeps updating the country.”

“On the part of the government, we remain committed to resource the police for them to act.”

The acting IGP upon assumption office has embarked on a number of moves in a bid to curtail issues that affect the internal security of the country.

For instance, he embarked on a 60-hour ground operational tour in the Bono East Region.

The dawn-to-dusk tour which was undertaken was to, among others, review ground combat operations, interact with the chiefs and people of the region as well as interact with personnel on the ground on the security situation in the area.

The tour took him to Techiman, Tuobodom, Wenchi, Nkoranza, Abease, New Longoro, Prang, Yeji among others.

Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has also commissioned a Motor Traffic and Accident Monitoring and Surveillance Center.

The newly established center is expected to assist police personnel conduct real-time assessments of road traffic offenses, accidents, and other related issues.

Just yesterday, [Tuesday, September 7, 2021] he presented an undisclosed amount of money to the family of 9-year-old Michael Darko who was killed at Awutu Bereku when the traditional priest of the town was performing rituals to commemorate the Awutu Awubia festival.

On Sunday, August 22, 2021, he also visited Abesim, in the Bono Region, following the alleged murder of three persons.
