The Senegalese national team won the Total Energies Africa Cup of Nations final on Sunday, defeating Egypt.
Senegal triumphed 4-2 on penalties following a goalless 120-minute match, with Liverpool striker Sadio Mane scoring the game-winner.
Following a 1-0 loss to Algeria in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations final, the win gives them their first-ever Africa Cup of Nations championship and brings the Total Energies Africa Cup of Nations to a close.
Last year, at the Africa Cup of Nations draw, the president of the Confederation of African Football announced his wish to enhance the Africa Cup of Nations prize money from the $4.5 million awarded to Algeria after their win.
The Confederation of African Football has boosted the prize pool for the 2021 Total Energies Africa Cup of Nations from $4.5 million to $5 million.
The Senegalese team will receive $5 million as a result of their victory over Egypt in the 2021 Total Energies Africa Cup of Nations.
CAF would also pay Egypt $2.75 million (£2 million) for losing the AFCON 2021 final to Senegal, and Cameroon $2.2 million (£1.6 million) for finishing third (bronze medal).
