Parliament has summoned the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong before the Privileges Committee.
This follows a motion brought before the speaker by Minority Whip, Muntaka Mubarak, on comments allegedly made by Kennedy Agyapong about the Majority leader and Parliament.
Kennedy Agyapong is reported to have described the House as “useless” for having Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu as its Majority leader.
The MPs on both sides of the aisle agreed to the request to haul Kennedy Agyapong before the Committee.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Muntaka Mubarak stated that he had in his possession, a recording of Ken Agyapong’s comments.
“I have the video and a lot of publication to have referred to Parliament as useless. Mr Speaker, I have the tape here, our colleague is referring to this House as useless. If I am to paraphrase, ‘if this house is not useless, we will not have the likes of Osei Mensah Bonsu to be its leader’, ” he said.
1st Deputy Speaker of Parliament Joe Osei Wusu said if indeed Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong made such utterances then he has breached the law and needs to be brought before the House.
“If indeed he uttered those words, they are clearly against order 28 and order 30 rule 2. I direct that Mr Kennedy Agyapong, MP for Assin Central Agyapong appears before the Privileges Committee for the committee to determine whether indeed he utter those words which are attributed to him and also recommend the appropriate sanction,” he said.
On Tuesday, the Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, criticised the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, for his tirades directed at the investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
Speaking on Eyewitness News, he described Kennedy Agyapong’s scathing verbal attacks against Anas as “regrettable”.
“If you question his methods, does that mean you should launch a personal blistering attack on the person? Stating emphatically that he is corrupt and so on and so forth. We should be careful, especially us as Members of Parliament,” Mr Kyei Mensah-Bonsu said.
